Another Fall Idea

Our house had another fall themed party recently, and several friends have hosted more as well. It seems the expat community really misses fall back home!

My housemate who was the official hostess of this dinner gathering did a fantastic job of putting together some fall themed decorations, such as a bouquet of candied apples and ginger cookies. She also hosted some fun fall games like a scarecrow making competition (let me just tell you that gathering the proper materials to make a scarecrow in the Middle East is hard). Finally, she made a delicious punch with cider and spices and then carved out a pumpkin for serving! This was a great idea. Not only did it look wonderful on our fall table, but it kept the cider warm all night long.

We also had a slew of Halloween parties and I thought people did a great job of putting together fun costumes. Quite a few people came as Ghadaffi, of course, much to everyone's amusement. I was in a duo costume as the Arab Spring. A few of my favorite costumes were the Google Team and Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra.

One of my friends came dressed in a kind of brown jumpsuit. I couldn't tell what she was. Then she hunched over and started crawling on the ground making bizarre moaning noises. "Are you Golem?" I asked her. "No!" she shouted as our other friends shrieked with laughter. She was a camel! Ha! It was definitely hard to figure out at first.

Sadly, there was no trick-or-treating, but the little expat kids got to go to lots of school parties so I know they still had fun!
